The DCF is a completely automated instrument for preparing fused beads for analysis by X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF). Designed to improve sample to sample reproducibility, increase sample throughput, and lower the cost per analysis by fully automating the repetitive labor intensive tasks involved in the preparation of fused beads.

The DCF accurately and automatically handles sample Dosing, Cleaning and the entire Fusion process including:

Sample to Sample Reproducibility

Sample to sample reproducibility is critical in insuring the quality of you laboratories results, especially if you are an ISO certified or otherwise accredited laboratory.  It's widely recognized that the largest source of error in any XRF analysis is related to the sample preparation.  Developing good sample preparation protocols and procedures is critical in minimize sample preparation error.

 

The DCF improves sample to sample reproducibility by

  •          Weighing samples to an industry leading sample/flux dilution accuracy of ±0.15%

  •          Utilizing a carefully temperature regulated fusion furnace

Sample Throughput

Increasing sample throughput is one of the major benefits of laboratory automation and the DCF is no exception.  The DCF is capable of producing hundreds of samples each day to keep you XRF instrument fully busy, thereby increasing the overall productivity of your laboratory. 

  •        The DCF can be equipped with  multiple fusion furnaces ( 10/20 samples/hr).
  •        Crucible buffer system  insures continuous operating.

 


 

Flexibility

Operational flexibility is another key factor when considering investing in automated sample preparation.  The DCF fusion instrument is fully programmable and each step in the fusion process can be adapted to suite almost any application requirements and the system can store up to 32 unique programs allowing the greatest operation flexibility.  If it can be fused the DCF can handle it.

 

 


 

Safety

Safety is always an important concern when introducing new equipment to your lab and the DCF meet the highest safety requirements and complies with the European CE safety standard.

The DCF handles common safety concerns commonly associated with sample preparation by fusion in several ways

 

  • No risk of injury risk from interacting with the fusion furnace or handling hot samples
  • No exposure to harsh to harsh chemicals when using the system 
  • Never suffer fatigue from repetitive tasks such as sample weighing.
  • No flammable gasses or RF coils to dissolve the samples.
  • No exposure of operators to harmful gases or volatiles produced during the fusion 

 

Reducing the Cost/Analysis

Reducing the cost of analysis is always a consideration in any analytical laboratory and this is often difficult to achieve while maintain the highest quality of data. The cost/ analysis are driven by several factors including labor, the cost of consumables and the sample throughput.

The DCF minimizes the cost/analysis while maintaining the highest quality of sample preparation from sample to sample by fully automating the entire sample preparation process.  This reduces the labour intensive repetitive tasks freeing technical staff to focus on higher level tasks, automating sample dosing limits wasting consumables and dramatically increases the throughput capability of any laboratory.

The DCF units prepare fused beads for XRF analysis, including the dosing, weighing and mixing of flux and sample, as well the cleaning of the crucibles. The DCF820 is capable of making 10 beads per hour, while the DCF830, which has two furnaces, can make 20 beads per hour. The unit is designed to operate in automated laboratory.

 

XRF analysis of fused beads is unaffected by analytical errors associated with mineralogy, segregation or particle size. The preparation technique ensures a homogenous matrix with an even distribution of analytes.
Automation of the dosing and weighing tasks ensures optimal reproducibility and analytical quality and increases the capacity of the laboratory. Automated fusion preparation is faster than the manual process and thus gives faster access to data.


Dilution ratio and flux type can be adjusted from sample to sample according to recipe. Adjustable gravimetric dosing of both sample and flux allows the DCF820 to achieve dilution ratios with an accuracy of +/-0.15%. The catch weight is read with a resolution of 0.0001g. Dosing accuracy can be adjusted in accordance with capacity requirements.
